You wonder about our funny name? Luette Neih Stuuv is the old 'Plattdeutsch' for "Little Sewing Room". In the Middle Ages, Plattdeutsch, or Low German as it is called in English, was the predominant language in northern Germany and an important language for trade and commerce as the lingua franca of the Hanseatic League. The Deutsches Sprachatlas research centre of the University of Marburg, one of the most important institutions for dialect research in Germany, defines this dialect as a local language that has its own grammar.
